CROSS OF CHRIST
I. Background of word "cross."
A. Greek word stauros originally
indicated pointed, vertical stake. Used of fence posts.
B. Later used to refer to an instrument
of torture and execution.

by Egyptians, Persians, Carthaginians, Greek and Romans.

varieties.
